Class Descriptions

Yoga Flow

This practice is appropriate for all levels- it will offer enough direction for the beginner and options for increased challenge for seasoned yogis.  At a comfortable paced flow, postures are linked together to build strength, flexibility and functional mobility. Options are given at varying levels to increase body awareness and lean into the relaxation or challenge, depending on what your body needs on that day.
Class ends with an extended, lush relaxation pose with warm stones and cozy blankets.

Gentle Yoga

This is a feel good flow to help you find ease and effort in a gentle practice. At a comfortable paced flow, postures are linked together to build strength, flexibility and functional mobility. Options are given at varying levels to increase body awareness and lean into the relaxation or challenge, depending on what your body needs on that day.
Some poses will be held longer, inspired by Yin yoga. During the practice of Yin yoga, poses are held for longer, allowing the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) to release tension with longer holds allowing the fascia and connective tissue of the body to relax. These gentle postures cue the body into a safe space of wellbeing, activating the parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest) and encouraging your body to rest, heal and restore balance.

Friday Happy Hour

The goal of this class is to find ease and effort in a gentle practice. At a comfortable paced flow, postures are linked together to build strength, flexibility and functional mobility. Options are given at varying levels to increase body awareness and lean into the relaxation or challenge, depending on what your body needs on that day.

Restorative 15 minutes

Class transitions into an extended relaxation pose. Two-three restorative poses are held for with supportive blocks, bolsters and blankets. Walk into your weekend feeling empowered and restored! You will leave your mat feeling deeply rejuvenated and ready to take on the weekend!

My fascination with yoga began nearly three decades ago when I took my first yoga class in Amritsar, India during my art education student teacher assignment abroad. I appreciated that class, consisting of seated breathwork, with wonder and curiosity. I continued to dabble in all sorts of classes wherever I've landed in life, from Saginaw, MI, to Asheville, NC and finally, here, on my mat, in Iowa City, Iowa. My dabbling turned into more of a deep dive the last several years, becoming an essential touchstone of personal well-being.

My appreciation is multi-faceted: from the Yoga Sutras and hot yoga lineage via India to the many teachers and styles I learn from today. I honor the historic lineage of yoga with authentic study and appreciation in my personal (and now teaching) practice. Likewise, I acknowledge the great gift of the teachers who are making these healthful, mindful practices accessible to us, here in the United States, who could use a few tools in our sanity boxes.  My favorite yoga studios include: Hot Yoga Asheville, Martha's Hot Yoga Studio, Muddy Feet Yoga and Hot House Yoga because I am a sucker for a hot studio but I also love all yoga workshops and frequently check out Heartland Yoga and Downward Dog's schedules. I'm excited to add the brand spanking new Be Loved Bodywork & Yoga and Life's Your Stage  (brand new) yoga classes to my list of favorites and I hope you do too!

I received my first 200RYT at Hot Yoga Asheville in November of 2024 (with my sister, that was special!) and plan on many more hours of teacher training, because I love it.  My goal as a teacher is to bring yoga to anyone who wants it, however they want it. I LOVE a challenging flow and breaking down peak postures AND restorative (what I lovingly refer to as layaround yoga). I also enjoy creating cross-training sequences to complement fitness or other personal health goals: running, lifting or cycling. Eventually, my goal is to offer intergenerational yoga and folks in the recovery community. One benefit of my studio dabbling around town is that is that I do not believe there is one right way. I  respect and study a variety of styles and lineages and know that you are the expert on your own body, together we can approach practice with confidence and curiosity.
